MOUNT VERNON — Victor “Doug” Douglas Hiatt, 66, of Mount Vernon, Illinois, passed away on June 30, 2023, at his residence.
He was born January 22, 1957, in Twentynine Palms, California to the late John Delbert Hiatt and Claudia Gail (Tate) Gersbacher. Doug married Vickie (Sendelbach) Hiatt on August 22, 1993.
In addition to his beloved wife of nearly thirty years, Doug is survived by his children, Michelle Barnard and husband, John of Mount Pleasant, South Carolina, DesiRae Drennan and husband, Chris of Woodlawn, Illinois, Quentin Hiatt and wife, Cassie of Woodlawn, Illinois, Shane Hiatt of Mount Vernon, Illinois, and Paul J. “Joey” Warren and wife, Brianna of Granite, Illinois; grandchildren, Gillian Barnard, Reeve Barnard, Taytum McRoy and husband, Dylan, Aumalie Murdock, Kaylie Murdock, Ethan Drennan and wife, Haley, Kendyl Drennan, Gabriel Crawford, Elizabeth Hiatt, Eli Hiatt, Penelope Hiatt, Paisley Hiatt, Devin Riley, Audrey Warren, Caitlyn Authement, Emma McCormick and honorable grandson, Grayson Habermass; honorable granddaughter, Anna Goeke; several great-grandchildren; siblings, Tonya Mick and husband, Dale of Albers, Illinois, Tracy Gersbacher of Desoto, Missouri, John Hiatt II and wife, Pam of Mount Vernon, Illinois; siblings-in-law, Sandy Sendelbach and wife, Stacy Portney, Michael Sendelbach; mother-in-law, Marilyn Sendelbach; several nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts, and uncles; and fur babies, Rikki, Axel, Charley, and new puppy, Andy.
In addition to his parents, Doug was preceded in death by his grandson, Ethan Hiatt and siblings-in-law, Joyce Kramm and Diane Scherer.
Doug worked at Walgreen’s Distribution Center for over twenty years and had recently retired. He was an avid fisherman. Doug proudly served in the US Army. He was a dedicated fan of the Chicago Cubs and Bears, as well as the Clemson Tigers and Rend Lake Lady Warriors. He enjoyed watching his grandchildren play sports. Above all, being a husband, dad, and grandpa was his true passion.
A Visitation will be held Saturday, July 8, 2023, from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm at Hughey Funeral Home in Mount Vernon, Illinois. A Funeral Service will begin at 1:00 pm with Mr. Chris Bean officiating. Interment will follow at Mount Vernon Memorial Gardens in Woodlawn, Illinois. Full Military Honors will be conducted at the cemetery by the American Legion Post #141.
