BLUFORD, Ill. — Phyllis Vergene (Melow) Ganieany, 78, of Bluford, IL passed away on Saturday, July 1, 2023, at her home in Bluford.  Phyllis was born October 16, 1944 in Willmar City, MN the daughter of Elvir Ward Melow & Dorothy Melow-Nicol.  On September 29, 1963, she married Leland Leslie Ganieany, who preceded her in death on July 20, 2021.

Phyllis had worked as a purchasing agent at SSM Good Samaritan Hospital in Mt. Vernon, IL and in Centralia, IL previously.  She was also formerly employed as the Lead Support Staff at the Elgin Mental Health Center in Elgin, IL.  She was a member of Olive Branch Missionary Baptist Church in Wayne City, IL and had also served as a Sunday School Teacher and was a singer in the church choir.

Phyllis enjoyed traveling, camping, dining, shopping, and visiting with friends & family.  She loved her pet cats, and she loved the holidays.  She loved her church and her family.

Phyllis is survived by a daughter Vicky Lucille Ganieany of Bourbonnais, IL; a son Lowell Ganieany (and wife Adrienne) of Bluford, IL; 5 grandchildren: Emilie Hays (and husband Steve), Sarah Keller (and husband Zack), Logan Ganieany, Levi Ganieany, and Tori Osuchowski-Ganieany; 3 great-grandchildren: Pete Hays, Cale Hays, and Ripp Hays; a brother David Nicol (and wife Terri) of Kentucky, a brother-in-law Luther Ganieany, a sister-in-law Anne Ganieany, and several nieces & nephews.

She was preceded in death by both parents Elvir Ward Melow & Dorothy Melow-Nicol, her husband Leland Leslie Ganieany, an infant son Leslie Loren Ganieany on March 11, 1966, a brother Larry Melow, a sister Shirley Melow, and a brother-in-law Jerry Ganieany.

Funeral services for Phyllis Vergene (Melow) Ganieany will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, July 6, 2023, at Olive Branch Missionary Baptist Church in Wayne City, IL with Bro. Steve Hamson officiating.  Visitation will be held from 11:00 a.m. until the time of service at 2:00 p.m. Thursday at the church.  A meal will immediately follow the funeral service before a funeral procession leaves for interment at Union Chapel Cemetery in Texico, IL.  In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Olive Branch Missionary Baptist Church, and will be accepted at the church or at Young Funeral Home in Wayne City.  Online condolences and expressions of sympathy may be made at youngfuneralhomellc.com
