FRANKLIN COUNTY — A 27-year-old Centralia man was arrested Thursday after fleeing from Illinois State Police during a motorist assist call on Interstate 57 in Franklin County.
According to ISP, a Trooper stopped around 9:50 Thursday morning for a motorist assist on the side of the road at milepost 75 on southbound I-57 near Sesser.
As the Trooper was speaking with the occupants, a male passenger reportedly gave the Trooper a false name. Reports say that during the encounter, that male passenger ran from the vehicle and into a wooded area.
With the assistance of Illinois Department of Natural Resource officers and officers from several other agencies, a perimeter was set up, and ISP K9 units were used to assist in tracking the subject.
The suspect, 27-year-old Darius G. Brown of Centralia, was taken into custody at 1 p.m.
ISP learned that Brown had a warrant from McLean County. He was taken into custody and transported to the Franklin County Jail on the warrant and on charges of Resisting Arrest and Obstruction of Justice.
The incident resulted in southbound I-57 being backed up for quite a while.
