MOUNT VERNON — The Mount Vernon Police Department says it has seen a significant increase in 911 hang-up/accidental calls.
According to MVPD, Android & Apple products both have a feature called Emergency SOS, which allows you to quickly access 9-1-1 services. However, the user may not be aware they have contacted 9-1-1.
Officials explain the feature can increase pocket dials and hang-up calls to which authorities will then begin a callback and phone ping process & will promptly dispatch officers.
If you would like to disable this feature on your phone, MVPD has shared some helpful tips below for both iPhone and Android users.
Officials note that if you accidentally call 9-1-1, always remember to stay on the line and provide the dispatcher with the necessary information for the misdial.
