DIX, Ill. — Garry Ray Barton, 82, of Dix, IL passed away Friday, June 2, 2023, at his home surrounded by his family.
Garry was born July 27, 1940, in Centralia, IL the son of Lawrence Barton and Lucy (Snider) Barton. He married Carole Loyd on August 5, 1961, at the Methodist Church in Walnut Hill, Ill.
In addition to Carole Barton, his wife of 61 years, he is survived by two daughters: Tamara Correthers (Eric) of Alsip, IL and Daina Wertman (Dave) of Troy IL: four grandchildren: Rachel Correthers, Eric Correthers, Jr, Olivia Wertman and Anna Wertman, and great-grandchild: Skylar Berry. He is also survived by a nephew Greg Barton (Margie) and children Jake and Dustin and a niece Sherry Harris (Kevin) and children Amanda and Tyler.
Garry was preceded in death by his parents and his brother Jimmy Barton.
Garry worked at the Illinois Central Railroad for 10 years. He was a lifelong farmer who raised pigs and goats. He enjoyed horseback riding in Shawnee National Forest with his buddies. His grandchildren enjoyed his funny sense of humor and his stories. He also loved to mow his yard and pastures.

Per Garry’s wishes, cremation rites will be accorded and no public services will be held. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Camp We Wo Se Je. P.O. Box 3, Texico, IL 62389.
