Sharron Mae Ramsey, 78, of McLeansboro, IL passed away peacefully on Tuesday, January 17, 2023 at her home.  Sharron was born on November 7, 1944 in Detroit, MI to Harry Ramsey and Virginia Grifford.

For her first career path, Sharron graduated from Kaskaskia College with her RN Degree and worked many years as the Emergency Room Supervisor at Hamilton Memorial Hospital in McLeansboro. Sharron later earned her Juris Doctor degree from SIU Carbondale, and worked as an attorney. She owned her own law office in McLeansboro, worked as the Public Defender in Hardin County & Gallatin County for 17 years, was the director of the Mt. Vernon, IL Office of the Illinois Attorney General under Roland Burris, and was a formal hearing officer at the Mt. Vernon Secretary of State’s Office under Jesse White.  Sharron was a charter member of Christian Chapel Church in McLeansboro and served in the kitchen, on the benevolence committee, the hospitality group, and as church secretary, recorder, and trustee.  Sharron was a true witness for Jesus and the Church.

She loved to cook for her family, her friends, her church, and for those in need.  One of her favorite activities was cruising around in her car, enjoying the scenery. She loved to drive around the country roads with her grandson Chase to spot wildlife.  Sharron loved shopping, antiquing, and decorating her home for the various seasons and holidays throughout the year. She enjoyed solving crossword and sudoku puzzles, and loved spending time with her family, her friends, and her church family.

Sharron is survived by her 4 children: Nicole Frey (Rick Cocke) of McLeansboro, Ernie VanZant II (Laura Watson) of McLeansboro, Erika (Jason) Young of McLeansboro, and Elecia (Andy) Romig of McLeansboro; and 3 grandchildren: Molly Mae Frey of Champaign, IL; Chase Austin Young and Leah Elizabeth Young of McLeansboro.

She was preceded in death by her father Harry Ramsey, mother Virginia Grifford, brother Harry Ramsey Jr., paternal grandparents Charles & Ida Kelly, and maternal grandparents Steven & Philomene Allor.

Funeral services for Sharron Mae Ramsey will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday, January 21, 2023 at Christian Chapel Church in McLeansboro with Pastors Allen Spangler and Ruby McDowell officiating.  Visitation will be held prior to the service from 10:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m. on Saturday at the church.  Interment will follow the funeral service at I.O.O.F. Cemetery in McLeansboro.

Memorials in Sharron’s honor may be made to Christian Chapel Church, and will be accepted at the church or at Gholson Funeral Home in McLeansboro, which is in charge of arrangements.
