MOUNT VERNON — The Mount Vernon Police Department is investigating a shots fired incident early Sunday in which a woman was grazed by a bullet.
According to police, they responded around 1:45 a.m. Sunday to a report of several shots fired outside Dee Bee’s Bar in the 300 block of South Ninth Street.
The caller reported a woman had been shot but they were unsure of the extent of her injuries.
Litton Ambulance transported the woman to SSM Health Good Samaritan Hospital Emergency Room.
Reports indicated she may have been grazed in the head by a bullet, but that has not been confirmed and the nature of her injuries remains under investigation.
A male suspect wearing a hoodie was seen running south on 10th Street but other reports say he may have left the scene in a Chevy Tahoe.
Jefferson County Sheriff’s Department reported they had a male subject near 11th and Casey but it’s unclear if that was the same suspect. Mt. Vernon police say at one point, they detained a subject but no arrests have officially been made yet in this case.
Reports indicate there may have been a fight inside the Dee Bee’s Bar that spilled out into the street at closing time and resulted in multiple shots being fired.
However, the exact circumstances of the incident are unclear and remain under investigation.
