WILLIAMSON COUNTY — Two people are dead in what appears to have been a murder/suicide Friday morning in Williamson County.

According to the Williamson County Sheriff’s Department, Carterville police responded to Integral Health just before 9 a.m. where 32-year-old Michelle Aumiller was shot approximately 10 feet from the entrance.

Reports indicate it wasn’t clear if she was an employee or if she was going into or heading out of the building.

Michelle Aumiller was rushed to a Carbondale hospital where she passed away. In 2021 she filed for an order of protection against her husband but according to online records, despite verifying abuse had occurred, the Saline County Court denied a request for a long-term order of protection.

Law enforcement believed the shooting was the result of a domestic situation with her husband 36-year-old Robert Aumiller. A search quickly ensued for Robert Aumiller with officers from state, federal and multiple local agencies spreading out in search of the suspect and his vehicle.

As officers searched for him, John A. Logan College and Carterville schools were placed on precautionary lockdowns and alerts were sent out across the region.

Robert Aumiller was later found dead with a self-inflicted gunshot wound at the corner of Cardinal and Cyprus roads in Williamson County.

ISP assisted the Williamson County Sheriff’s Office with the investigation.

Other agencies on scene were from the FBI, U.S. Marshals, Carterville, Herrin and more.
