JEFFERSON COUNTY — An 18-year-old Mt. Vernon man and a 17-year-old juvenile male were arrested Tuesday afternoon in connection with a reported armed robbery at the trailer park in the 200 block of Casey Avenue in Woodlawn.
According to the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded to a report of two black males battering a resident of the trailer park with a handgun and then stealing the victim’s property.
The two subjects reportedly left the scene in a grayish Nissan. A responding deputy reportedly spotted a vehicle matching the suspect vehicle near the intersection of Drivers Lane and Illinois 15. But the deputy says the vehicle sped away before an investigative stop could be completed.
After a brief pursuit, the vehicle pulled over in the 4600 block of Broadway in Mt. Vernon.
Deputies, assisted by Mt. Vernon Police officers, conducted a high-risk traffic stop of the suspect vehicle and detained the two occupants.
The driver was identified as 18-year-old Mt. Vernon resident Tymaree J Ortiz-Turner. The passenger was identified as a 17-year-old juvenile male.
Once the suspects and vehicle were secured, evidence to the crime reported was observed in the vehicle.
The vehicle was towed, evidence collected, and the suspects were transported to the Justice Center.
The ongoing investigation resulted in both Ortiz-Turner and the juvenile being charged with Armed Robbery and Armed Violence.
Ortiz-Turner was taken to the Jefferson County Jail with bond to be set by a judge.
The juvenile was transported to the Franklin County Juvenile Detention Center to be held until his first court appearance.
