Harry Lee Piper, 76, of Wayne City, IL passed away on Friday, December 16, 2022 at Deaconess Gateway Hospital in Newburgh, IN.
Harry was born on April 5, 1946 in Morton, IL the son of Frank H. Piper & Bernice (Burroughs) Piper. On January 26, 1964 he married Linda (Vance) Piper, who survives.
Harry worked for many years as a mechanic, and was a member of the Wayne City Church of God. He loved attending church services and church activities, and also had served as a church van driver to bring people to and from the church. He enjoyed traveling in his RV bus with Linda and going camping and fishing at their camper at Trago Lake near Flora, IL. He repaired and renovated buses for many years with his son Timothy, and recently repaired a number of small engines. He enjoyed having conversations with people and talking on the phone. He loved spending time with friends and family. After the passing of their son, Randall Joseph Piper, Harry and Linda raised 2 of their grandsons (Jonathan & Steven Piper). He loved all of his grandchildren and great-grandchildren very much.
Harry is survived by his wife Linda Piper of Wayne City, a son Timothy (Julie) Piper of Wayne City, a daughter Melissa (Kerry) Austin of Evansville, IN; 7 grandchildren: Amanda (Gary) Marshel, Jonathan (Rachel) Piper, Steven (Sara) Piper, Mike (Brittany) Piper, Autumn (Dean) Bieber, Piper Austin, and Nathaniel Austin; and 13 great-grandchildren with one on the way. He is also survived by 2 sisters: Caroline (Rick) Lauria of Decatur, IL and Connie Woolley of Maricopa, AZ; and an uncle & aunt Dale & Fairy Burroughs.
He was preceded in death by his parents Frank & Bernice Piper, a sister Irene Tucker, and 2 sons: Jeffrey Alan Piper and Randall Joseph Piper.
Funeral services for Harry Lee Piper will be held at 12:00 noon on Wednesday, December 21, 2022 at the Archie L. Sanders Memorial Chapel in Wayne City with Pastors Gary Cline and Curt Rush officiating.
Visitation will be held prior to the funeral service from 10:00 am until 12:00 noon at the chapel. Interment will follow the funeral service at Thomason Cemetery in Wayne City.
