CENTRALIA — Dr. Segundina C. Lazo, 95, of Centralia, passed away Sunday, December 11, 2022, at SSM Health Good Samaritan Hospital in Mt. Vernon.
She was born July 1, 1927, in Manila, Philippine Islands, the daughter of Isabelo Del Carmen and Flora (Tantoco) Del Carmen. She married Dr. Avelino Raquiza Lazo on December 24, 1953, and he preceded her in death on Monday, November 5, 2007.
Dr. Seguindina is survived by her four children: Francis Lazo and wife Janice of Centralia, Dr. Edward C. Lazo and wife Sally of Ocala, Florida, Mary Janet Stedelin and husband Patrick of Centralia, and Dina Lazo-Sanders and husband Jon of Harrisburg; eleven grandchildren: Christina Lazo, Mariel Duran and husband Heriberto, and Andrew Lazo, Talman Stedelin, Brittany Lazo, Dexter Lazo, Deonna Lazo, Damarion Lazo, Iverick Lazo, Armani Lazo, Summer Leilani Sanders; four sisters: Gloria Reburiano, Estelita Escamillan, Nenita Guevarra, and Teresita Uy; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was also preceded in death by her four brothers: Ruperto Del Carmen, Filemon Del Carmen, Francisco Del Carmen, and Semplicio, and her two sisters: Isabelita Pineda and Luz Rivera.
Dr. Segundina was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Centralia. When she turned 80 years old, she had a midlife crisis and purchased her first red convertible. She never obtained her driver’s license; her daughter, Mary, would drive her to Mass on Sunday‘s and take her shopping. Dr. Segundina loved cooking for her family and cherished the time she spent with her family and friends.
A Private Family Service will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Mary’s Church and will be accepted at the Sutherland-Garnier Funeral Home at 235 North Sycamore Street Centralia, Illinois 62801, 618-532-3523, who is honored to be of service to the Lazo family.
