ODIN — Rita Kay Brown, 78, of Odin, IL passed away in the care of her family, on September 24, 2022.
Born August 7, 1944, in Sellersburg, Indiana, she was the daughter of Walter L. and Susie M. (Smith) James.
Simple cremation was selected. The family will greet friends in the chapel of Sutherland – Rankin Funeral Home from 11:00 am Friday until 1:00 pm. A service will follow at the funeral home. Burial will take place at a later date. Memorials may be made to the Donor’s choice and will be received by the Sutherland – Rankin Funeral Home, P.O. Box 97, 310 N. Rita was retired from Salem Gravure – Division of World Color Press. While she was able, she loved cooking for and spending time with her family. She also loved sewing.
She married Donald Meyer in 1961 and they later divorced.
Surviving are her children, Melissa “Mindy” Meyer of South Bend, IN, Bob D. (Pam) Meyer of Athens, Alabama, Indiana and Cindy (Curtis) Quick of Odin, IL along with grandchildren Lincoln (Jesse) Parish, Torie (Andy) Kelley, Shelby (Blane) Parish, Jacob Meyer, Julia Meyer, Matthew Meyer, Maria Meyer Sarah (Tyler) Parker, Dustin (Claudia) Quick. She also leaves great-grandchildren Jude Parish, Joseph Kelley, Audrey Kelly, Colson Quick Braxton Quick, and Liam Parker and four step-grandchildren. In addition, she is survived by her sister Julia Ann McKnight of New Albany, Indiana, former husband Donald Meyer of Hoffman and a host of nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her son, Russell S. Meyer in 1973 and six siblings.
