MOUNT VERNON — Mt. Vernon Fire Chief Kevin Sargent says the first leaf burning period this fall will happen Monday, Oct. 10 through Sunday, Oct. 16.
The second burning period, according to Sargent, will be from Monday, Nov. 14 through Sunday, Nov. 20.
A leaf-burning fire is permitted between the hours of sunrise and sunset each of those days.
No burning shall occur upon any public street, public sidewalk, drainage ditch within the public right-of-way nor any manhole cover or upon the property of another without written permission.
All types of fires must be physically attended by a person at least 18 years of age at all times.
Burning of any kind may be prohibited during any permitted leaf burning period by order of the Fire Chief due to high winds, dry conditions or other factors.
