Ronald Lee Sexton, 69, of Mount Vernon, Illinois passed away at 5:26 am August 20, 2022 at his oldest son’s home in Salem, Illinois. He was born August 6, 1953 in Paintsville, Kentucky to Luther and Verna Sexton. Ronald married Yvonne Thornton on April 13, 1973.
In addition to his wife, Ronald is survived by his brothers and sisters, Douglas and wife, Judy of Lenoir City, Tennessee, Virgil and wife, Jeanne of Mount Vernon, Illinois, Brenda Boles of North Carolina, and Gaynell Williams of Houston, Texas; children, Chris and wife, Tobi Sexton of Salem, Illinois; Phillip and wife, Morgan Sexton of Mount Vernon, Illinois; grandchildren, Ciara, Victoria, Lucas, Avelyn, Maddilyn, Mylee, Kayla, Ari, Kamora, Aiden, Abel, and Silas; and great-granddaughter, Cali.
Ronald was preceded in death by his parents and several brothers and sisters.
Ronald attended Central Christian Church in Mount Vernon. Ron was a hard worker. Ronald retired after a thirty year career in Coal Mining. He later worked for Walgreen’s Distribution for ten years. Ron enjoyed fishing, hiking, traveling, and swimming in the ocean. He was a loving husband and father who devoted his life to his family. Ron did not know a stranger, he was always putting others’ needs before his own and was always willing to lend a hand to those in need. He coached both of his sons in soccer for eight years of more. He always attended any other sporting events that they were involved in no matter where it was. Ron was adored by his grandchildren who loved spending time with him. Ron will be deeply missed by those who knew and loved him.
A Visitation will be held Saturday, August 27, 2022 from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm at Newell Funeral Home in Mount Vernon, Illinois. A Funeral Service will begin at 1:00 pm with Pastor Joshua York and Mr. Brian Lee officiating. Interment will follow at Mount Vernon Memorial Gardens in Woodlawn, Illinois. Memorials may be made in Ronald’s honor to Alzheimer’s Association.
