Elsie Marie (Donoho) Sharp, 95 years & 8 months, a longtime resident of Paper Town, IL went to meet her Savior in the early morning of Tuesday, June 21, 2022 with her family by her side at SSM Health Good Samaritan Hospital in Mt. Vernon, IL.

Elsie Marie (Donoho) Sharp was born October 16, 1926 at her family’s home near Orchardville, IL the daughter of Fred & Edna (Allen) Donoho.  She married Leonard “Louie” Sharp on February 20, 1946 – they shared 62 happy years of marriage before his passing in 2008.

In her younger days, before getting married, Elsie worked at McConaughey Store.  Later, she was a homemaker and helped her husband Louie pastor at 2 churches.  She most recently attended Howard Community Chapel Church in Opdyke, IL.  She was of the Pentecostal faith.  Elsie enjoyed gardening, canning, cutting out quilt blocks, and made quilts for all of her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.  She stated that “My quilts may not be fancy, but they will keep you warm.”  In addition to quilting, she also liked to make rag weave rugs on her loom machine.  She enjoyed making peanut butter cookies for her grandchildren and spending time with her family.

Elsie is survived by a son Gale (Tammy) Sharp of Keenes, IL; a daughter Anita Dickerson of Flora, IL; 7 grandchildren: Vince (Missy) Sharp of Xenia, IL; Vadawn (Jeremy) Stroud of Iuka, IL; Jamie (Daniela) Simmons of Salem, IL; Mark Simmons of Kell, IL; Michael (Stephenie) Dickerson of Flora, IL; Jana (David) Renfrow of Olney, IL; and Andy (Jessica Faith) Sharp of Pocahontas, IL; 11 great grandchildren: Dillon (Audrey) Sharp of Xenia, Shelby (Dalton) Kelly of Xenia, Jairva Stroud and Jairen Stroud, both of Iuka, Janessa Dickerson of Flora, Dakota Wyatt, Jayla Wyatt, Makayla Renfrow, and Brooklynn Renfrow – all of Olney, Carley Sharp of Pocahontas, and Hagen Simmons of Kell, a great great granddaughter Emberly Sharp of Xenia, a brother-in-law Norman Sharp of Alton, IL, a sister-in-law Sharon Sharp of Xenia, a son-in-law Jim Simmons of Iuka.

She was preceded in death by both parents Fred & Edna Donoho, her husband Leonard “Louie” Sharp, a son Donald Sharp, a daughter Thelma Simmons, a sister Alice Donoho, and 4 brothers: Leonard Donoho, Everett Donoho, George Donoho, and Oscar “Gene” Donoho.

Funeral services for Elsie Marie (Donoho) Sharp will be held at 10 am on Saturday, June 25, 2022 at Young Funeral Home in Wayne City, IL with Pastor Eric Ragan officiating.  Visitation will be held from 5 pm until 7pm on Friday, June 24, 2022 at Young Funeral Home.  Interment will follow the funeral services at New Home Cemetery (Lowery Cemetery) in Bluford, IL.  In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Orchardville Volunteer Fire Department, or to Howard Community Chapel Church, and will be accepted at Young Funeral Home in Wayne City.  Online condolences, memories, and words of encouragement may be left at www.youngfuneralhomellc.com.
