MT. VERNON, IL — This year’s inductees into the Illinois Aviation Hall of Fame will include two from our area.
Veterans Airport of Southern Illinois Director Doug Kimmel and Retired U.S. Air Force Lt. Colonel Steve Willis, who is a flight instructor at the Mt. Vernon Outland Airport, will be inducted Thursday in Champaign.
This year’s Spirit of Flight Award will be presented to EAA Chapter 1155 of Mt. Vernon.
Spirit of Flight Awardees are selected for their contributions to aviation in Illinois, with a particular emphasis on volunteerism and contributions to the community.
