CENTRALIA, IL — Centralia Fire Protection firefighters responded Tuesday afternoon to a report of flames shooting 20 feet in the air from a home in Central City.
Two adults and three children were safely out of the home when firefighters arrived at 1431 North Elm. The residence was heavily damaged in the blaze that was reported just after 12:30 Tuesday afternoon. District firefighters received mutual aid at the scene from the Centralia City Fire Department. They quickly knocked down the fire but nearly half the home was destroyed while the other half suffered heavy heat damage.
The State Fire Marshal’s office responded to investigated the cause of the fire but have not yet made a determination. No injuries were reported but Lifestar Ambulance was on scene as was Central City and Wamac police.
Sandoval firefighters manned the Centralia Fire Protection District station in the event of another fire. ESDA blocked the busy highway while firefighters were fighting the blaze. The Red Cross was called to assist the residents of the home.
