MARION COUNTY, IL — A 96-year-old Iuka woman died from injuries she suffered Tuesday when she and her son were involved in a two-vehicle crash at Kinmundy and Tonti roads. Margaret Wright was a passenger Tuesday, in a vehicle being driven by her 70-year-old son Robert Wright, also from Iuka.
Crash reports indicate around 5 p.m. Tuesday, a vehicle being driven by 53-year-old Karen Putt of Alma pulled from a stop sign on Kinmundy Road and into the path of the Wright vehicle that was westbound on Tonti Road causing the vehicles to collide in the intersection. Both occupants in the Wright vehicle had to be extricated before being placed on separate medical helicopters. Putt reportedly told Marion County Sheriff’s deputies she was blinded by the sun. Both Robert and Margaret Wright were airlifted from the scene to a St. Louis area hospital for treatment of their injuries.
Margaret later died from her injuries. Putt declined treatment at the scene. She was cited for failure to yield at a stop sign.
