MT. VERNON, IL — A 55-year-old Mt. Vernon man is scheduled to go to trial Tuesday for an incident over the summer in which he was shot during an exchange of gunfire with a Mt. Vernon police officer. Fredrick Goss is charged with two Class X felonies for armed robbery with a firearm and aggravated discharge of a firearm at a police officer.
Goss is accused of a June armed robbery of the Mt Vernon Huck’s Store at 1801 South 10th Street, which resulted in the exchange of gunfire with the MVPD. Goss was struck in the exchange and was taken to an area hospital for treatment while the officer was not injured.
Goss has remained in the Jefferson County Jail with bail set at $1 million since his release from the hospital.
