Gwendolyn Nan McElravy, 86, of Mount Vernon, Illinois, passed away at 1:04 pm August 26, 2021 at SSM Health Good Samaritan Hospital in Mount Vernon. She was born December 19, 1934 in Sturgeon, Missouri to the late Emmett and Margaret (Orscheln) Kelly. Gwendolyn married George M. McElravy on July 31, 1954 in Centralia, Missouri.

Gwendolyn is survived by her children, Theresa McDonald and husband, Stephen of Iuka, Illinois, Kenneth McElravy of Mount Vernon, Ronald McElravy and wife, Helena of Jonesburg, Missouri, and Mary McElravy of Fort Smith, Arkansas; grandchildren, Tina Gass and husband, Jerry, Heather Dunaway and significant other, Kerry Henson, Jennifer McDonald, Jessica Sneed and husband, Matt, Angel Prescott and husband, Sean, Christopher McElravy, Shawn McElravy, Christina Riggs, Charles McElravy, Jr., Ronald McElravy, Jr., Sharla  McElravy, Kevin McElravy, Tabitha Dunavant and husband, Jacob, Rosie Robinson, and Alexander Deckard; thirty-nine great-grandchildren; seven great-great-grandchildren; brother, AB Kelly of Moberly, Missouri; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents and former husband, Gwendolyn was preceded in death by her son, Charles A. McElravy; grandson, Anthony George McElravy; great-granddaughter, Madison Elizabeth Prescott; sister, Jendolyn; and brothers, Jim Kelly and Tom Kelly.

Gwendolyn served as a private caregiver for many years. She was a faithful member of Summersville Baptist Church. In her spare time, she enjoyed sewing quilts and gifting them to those in need. Gwendolyn also enjoyed making pumpkin bread and watching John Wayne movies.

A Greeting of Family and Friends will be held Tuesday, August 31, 2021 from 12:00 pm to 1:00 pm at Summersville Baptist Church in Mount Vernon. A Memorial Service will begin at 1:00 pm with Reverend Don Verhines officiating. Memorials may be made in Gwendolyn’s honor to Summersville Baptist Church.
