WASHINGTON COUNTY, IL — Charges have been amended in Washington County Court against a 42-year-old Missouri man accused of a 2019 police pursuit in which he and his female passenger reportedly fired shots at police. Jared Queen was arrested in July 2019 after he and 42-year-old Maria Moore took Centralia and Wamac officers on a pursuit that started in Centralia and continued for more than 30 minutes and through multiple jurisdictions before ending in Coulterville, in Randolph County, Illinois.

As the pursuit sped through Washington County, Queen reportedly began firing a rifle at officers from the driver’s door, while Moore allegedly began firing at officers from the vehicle’s sunroof. Both were originally charged with Class X felony attempted first-degree murder, and five Class X felony counts of aggravated discharge of a firearm at a peace officer.

Queen was also charged at that time with Class X armed violence, Class 2 and Class 3 felony charges of being a felon in possession of a firearm, Class 4 felony aggravated fleeing, and misdemeanor charges of reckless conduct and resisting a peace officer. As of Friday, Queen is now charged with 11 Class X felonies including eight for aggravated discharge of a firearm at a police officer, and two of attempted murder, as well as a Class 4 felony for aggravated fleeing police and misdemeanor resisting police. He’s also facing a new Class 4 felony charge of identity theft charged since he’s been in the Washington County Jail. He reportedly used another inmates phone card information in 2020.

Both cases are scheduled for final pre-trial hearings Tuesday with a jury trial currently scheduled for next Monday.
