Hattie Lee (Anderson) Sanders, 92, of Mount Vernon, Illinois, passed away peacefully at 7:05 am July 20, 2021 at her home. She was born April 21, 1929 in Marks, Mississippi to the late Frank and Matilda (Mumford) Anderson. Hattie married Will Sanders on December 14, 1946. They were blessed with nearly 65 years of marriage before he preceded her in death on June 29, 2011.
Hattie is survived by her daughters, Dorothy Wade of Mount Vernon, Irean Spells and husband, Douglas of Mount Vernon, Linda Sanders of Springfield, Missouri, and Judy Woods of Columbus, Georgia; sons, Frank Sanders and significant other, Joanne Maines of Mount Vernon, Edward Sanders of Mount Vernon, and Will Sanders Jr. and significant other, Leesa Blount of Indianapolis, Indiana; and many loving grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren.
In addition to her husband and parents, Hattie was preceded in death by her first born son, Willie James Anderson; her third born son Tommie Lee Sanders, only nine days old; her baby boy, Easker “Lobo” Sanders; grandsons, Nate Jones, Curtis Sanders, Bart Gladney, and Xavier; and siblings, Gus Anderson, Esker Anderson, Frank Anderson, Jerry Anderson, Susie Ann Sheand, Cora Lacker Long, Ruth Mae Johnson, Annie Mae Johnson, and Matilda Mason.
A Visitation will be held Saturday, July 31, 2021 from 9:00 am to 11:00 am at Newell Funeral Home in Mount Vernon. A Funeral Service will begin at 11:00 am with Reverend Lawrence James, Reverend Ronald Johnson, and Reverend Erie Patton officiating. Interment will follow at Mount Vernon Memorial Gardens in Woodlawn, Illinois.
