Donald P. Ellis, 94, of Mount Vernon, Illinois, passed away at 2:30 am July 11, 2021 at White Oak Rehabilitation and Health Care Center in Mount Vernon. He was born September 7, 1926 in Mount Vernon to the late Warner and Olive (Clark) Ellis. Donald married Beatrice (Capps) Ellis on April 5, 1950. They were blessed with 54 years of marriage before she preceded him in death on May 10, 2004.

Donald is survived by his children, Theresa Lemmon and husband, Jerry of Tullahoma, Tennessee, Toni Hicks and husband, Gregory of Mount Vernon, and John Ellis and wife, Lisa of Mount Vernon; grandchildren, Amy Hambrick and husband, George of Tullahoma, Tennessee, Zane Reynolds and husband, Matt of Mount Vernon, Blaze Ellis and special friend, Christin Bailey of Roanoke, Indiana, Mary Beth Pecora and husband, Matt of Antioch, Illinois, and Jagger Ellis of Mount Vernon; great-grandchildren, Stevin Register, Tyler Register, Rachel Ocheltree, Kevin Hambrick, Luxe Reynolds, and Jett Reynolds; and great-great-grandchild, Eden Ocheltree.

Donald served in the United States Army. He retired as a mail carrier for the United States Postal Service in Mount Vernon. Later, he worked as a real estate agent for Cross-Davidson. In his spare time, Donald enjoyed playing golf, and watching Cardinals baseball. He was a loving father and grandfather. Donald will be greatly missed.

A Graveside Memorial Service will be held Sunday, July 18, 2021 at 1:30 pm at Oakwood Cemetery in Mount Vernon with Reverend Gina Ellis officiating. Inurnment will follow.  Memorials, in Donald’s loving memory, may be made to the charity of the donor’s choice.
