CLAY CITY, IL — A 37-year-old Clay City man was arrested Sunday after reportedly using a piece of heavy equipment to pick up a victim’s vehicle and move it across the property during a domestic dispute. According to the Clay County Sheriff’s Office, they arrested Michael Wells after they responded around 3:38 p.m. to a 911 call from a residence in Clay City reporting a domestic disturbance.
During the course of the investigation deputies were advised of allegations that a domestic battery that had occurred. It was also reported to the deputies that Wells had also used a piece of heavy equipment with forks on the front to pick up the victim’s vehicle by placing the forks through the window into the passenger compartment of the vehicle. The suspect then moved the vehicle across the property, causing extensive damage to the vehicle. Wells was ultimately arrested on an outstanding Clay County Warrant for Failure to Appear on multiple traffic offenses and was transported to the Clay County Jail. He was also held on charges of Domestic Battery and Criminal Damage to Property. Bond had previously been set on the warrant in the amount of $3,000.
On Monday, Wells appeared in court where he was formally charged with Domestic Battery and Criminal Damage to Property.
No additional bond was added on the new charges and Wells was released from Jail after posting bond.
