OLNEY, IL — Three people are scheduled to consolidate their cases Tuesday charging them in connection with last year’s shooting death of a 19-year-old man in southern Illinois. The last person to be indicted in Kyle M. Johnson’s death is 32-year-old Dale E. Boatman of Olney.
He’s charged along with 19-year-old Rick Meador and 34-year-old Tara Haws, both also of Olney, with committing first-degree murder by accountability and conspiracy to commit first-degree murder. The three are expected to request in court Tuesday that their cases be joined and they be tried together for Johnson’s death. Haws’ daughter, a juvenile who was also Meador’s girlfriend at the time is also charged in connection with the murder. Police found Johnson on Sept. 6, 2020. with multiple gunshot wounds. He died later at a hospital.
A Mt. Vernon woman, 44-year-old Misty D. Whipple has been charged in Jefferson County Court with one count of aiding a fugitive for her alleged role in Johnson’s death. Whipple is alleged to have helped Meador flee from a warrant for his arrest issued in the State of Illinois. She allegedly rented a van that was used to take Meador and his 16-year-old girlfriend to Florida, with the intent to help him escape the law.
