MT. VERNON, IL — The first leaf burning week in Mt. Vernon this spring is set for the second full week of April, which will be from Monday, April 12th through Sunday, April 18th. A leaf burning fire is permitted between the hours of sunrise and sunset each of those days.

No burning is to occur upon any public street, sidewalk, drainage ditch within the public right-of-way or any manhole cover or on the property of another without written permission. All types of fires must be physically attended by a person at least 18 years of age at all times. Burning of any kind may be prohibited during permitted leaf burning period by order of the Fire Chief due to high winds, dry conditions or other factors.

The second burn period for the spring is Monday through Sunday during the second full week of May.
