WASHINGTON COUNTY, IL — A 19-year-old Sandoval woman was seriously injured early Sunday morning when she was struck by a moving vehicle after falling out the sunroof. According to Illinois State Police, Victoria R. Lyons was transported to an area hospital with life-threatening injuries after she climbed out the sunroof of a car in which she was a passenger, slid down the hood and was struck by the vehicle.
The driver of the 2006 Mitsubishi in which Lyons was riding was 18-year-old Morgan E. Witthaus, of Centralia. Witthaus was reportedly traveling on Noltings Road approximately a quarter-mile south of Illinois Route 177 in Washington County when Lyons climbed out of the sun roof and was ultimately struck. Neither Witthaus nor a second passenger in the car, 20-year-old Andy C. Vonburg of Sandoval, was injured.
Charges are pending in the case. No other information is available at this time.
