Jewel Helen Fudge, 77, of Mount Vernon, Illinois, passed away at 1:27 pm February 9, 2021 at Deaconess Midtown Hospital in Evansville, Indiana. She was born June 10, 1943 in Borger, Texas to the late Robert Harrison and Elizabeth Helen (Garrison) Coats. Jewel married Sterling Fudge on April 3, 1980.
In addition to her loving husband of nearly forty-one years, Jewel is survived by her children, Richard Elgin and wife, Kristina of Mount Vernon, Illinois, David Elgin and wife, Tracy of Waco, Texas, Debra Montgomery and husband, David of Dumas, Texas, Jerry Schoonover and wife, Donna of Mount Vernon, Illinois, Jewel Hunt of Mount Vernon, Illinois; grandchildren, Richard Elgin III, Eric Gordzelik, Jamie Blocker, Jackie Armstrong Jr., D.J. Bird, T.J. Lamberson, Krystle Erwin, Robert Lamberson, Janice Hood, J.C. Schoonover, Michael Ennen, Mariah Ennen, Whitney Permenter, “Bubba” Permenter, Christina Jo Permenter, Sonia Bustos, “Bubba” Bustos, Maria Bustos, Juan Bustos, Leila Hammer, and Aaron Jones; several great-grandchildren; and sister, Jaquita Burk.
In addition to her parents, Jewel was preceded in death by her son, Robert Eugene Elgin; grandson, Anthony Sterling Elgin; brother, William Coats; sisters, Mary Catherine Marlow and Myrtle Patton.
Mrs. Fudge enjoyed family game night and was very competitive. Her greatest accomplishments were the love of her life, Sterling, her children and grandchildren.
A Visitation will be held Monday, February 15, 2021 from 12:00 pm to 1:00 pm at Hughey Funeral Home in Mount Vernon, Illinois. A Funeral Service will begin at 1:00 pm with Pastor Nathan Green and Mr. Jerry Schoonover officiating. Interment will follow at Smith-Veterans Cemetery in Belle Rive, Illinois. Memorials may be made in Jewel’s honor to Disabled American Veterans.
