Rowland C. Shafer, 93, of Sycamore, Illinois, formerly of Mount Vernon, Illinois, passed away at 11:35 am January 27, 2021 at Dekalb County Rehab and Nursing Home in Dekalb, Illinois. He was born May 22, 1927 in Freeport, Illinois to the late Haskell and Rita (Green) Shafer. Rowland married Barbara (Helverson) Shafer on August 20, 1948 in Mount Vernon. They were blessed with nearly 72 years of marriage before she preceded him in death on August 7, 2020. Rowland is survived by his daughters, Susan Dunlop of Sycamore, Illinois and Brenda Suhayda and husband, Bill of Sugar Grove, Illinois; grandchildren, Stephanie Evans and husband, Brian of Montgomery, Illinois, Brett Suhayda and wife, Joanna of Sugar Grove, Illinois, Kelly Land and husband, Zach of Pensacola, Florida, Emily Dunlop and husband, Andrew Thompson of Lake Forest, California, and Sara Zins and husband, Eric of Fulda, Minnesota; and eight great-grandchildren. Rowland worked as a milkman for many years. His greatest joy was the time he shared with his family. Rowland was dearly loved and will be missed by all who knew and adored him. A Visitation will be held Monday, February 1, 2021 from 11:30 am to 12:00 pm at Union Chapel Cemetery in Texico, Illinois. A Graveside Service will begin at 12:00 pm with Reverend Bud Storey officiating. Interment will follow. Please remember to observe social distancing at this time.
