John R Gockel, 94, of Mount Vernon, Illinois, passed away at 9:25 am January 5, 2021 at his granddaughters residence in Belleville, Illinois. He was born October 29, 1926 in Jefferson County, Illinois to the late Tony and Aureh (Yost) Gockel. John married Elsie (Mays) Gockel on April 25, 1975 in Mount Vernon, Illinois.

A Visitation will be held Sunday, January 10, 2021 from 12:00 pm to 1:00 pm at Mount Vernon Memorial Gardens in Woodlawn, Illinois. A Graveside Service will begin at 1:00 pm with  Reverend Mark Dye officiating. Full Military Rites will be held at the cemetery. Interment will follow. Memorials may be made in John’s honor to Amvets or the American Legion. Please remember to observe social distancing at this time. We are limited to 10 people in the tent at a time. Following the CDC and NFDA regulations, we encourage everyone to wear a mask. They will be made available, upon request.
