SALEM, IL — The Salem Police Department is investigating a break-in at a local pharmacy.
They received a call around 8:24 a.m. Thursday reporting a burglary of the Medicine Shoppe on Broadway in Salem where Michael “Craig” Morton, the owner of the pharmacy, had discovered the break-in.
Salem Police Chief Sean Reynolds reports the suspects had entered the business through the front door and damaged the door in the process. He says the suspects were able to defeat the alarm system and exited through the rear of the pharmacy before taking an undisclosed amount of pharmaceuticals and cash. Other reports indicate the phone lines to the business had been cut. According to Reynolds, surveillance video has been obtained and other surveillance video is being sought. He says it’s believed there were two suspects and they entered the building between 3 a.m. and 3:30 a.m.
The incident is under investigation and Reynolds urges anyone with information they believe would be helpful to the investigation to contact Salem PD at 618-548-2222.
