FAYETTE COUNTY, IL — A 51-year-old Vandalia man was sentenced Wednesday to seven years in prison after a Fayette County judge found him guilty in June of aggravated domestic battery.

Gregory M. Hill was given credit for 1,125 days he’s already served in the Fayette County Jail and after serving the required 85-percent of the remaining sentence could be released to parole in less than three years.

Hill was charged on August 21, 2017, with aggravated domestic battery stemming from a domestic incident that left his wife Heather Hill paralyzed from the neck down.

On September 13, 2017, that offense was elevated to the charge of Attempted First Degree Murder and two additional counts of Aggravated Domestic Battery were later filed.

Hill was convicted in June of the Class 2 felony charge of aggravated domestic battery for striking his wife Heather Hill multiple times in the neck with his knee or foot while she was lying prone on the floor. That action resulted in his wife being paralyzed from injuries to her spine and spinal cord. She is now a quadriplegic and resides in an assisted living facility.
