WASHINGTON COUNTY — A 52-year-old Lenzburg woman died following a crash Monday morning with a field sprayer at the intersection of Darmstadt Road and the Washington County Line Road.

According to Washington County Coroner Mark Styninger, his office was dispatched to the scene at 11:51 a.m. where Carmela Alvaredo-Linares, of Lenzburg was pronounced dead.

Styninger says Alvaredo-Linares was the unrestrained driver of an older Chrysler van which was northbound on Washington County Line Road when she failed to stop at the stop sign and was struck on the driver’s side by an agricultural field sprayer eastbound on the Darmstadt Road driven by an area farmer.

The Alvaredo-Linares vehicle reportedly ended up in the ditch on the east side of the Washington County Line Road and suffered extensive damage.

The field sprayer came to rest in a cornfield on the north side of Darmstadt Road. The driver of the field sprayer was not injured in the accident.

Toxicology samples of Alvaredo-Linares were obtained by Coroner Styninger for routine testing. An Illinois State Police accident reconstruction team was sent to the scene since a commercial vehicle was involved.

Cause of death was massive head trauma. Styninger said the manner of death was an accident.
The accident continues to be investigated by the Illinois State Police, Washington County Sheriff’s Department and the Washington County Coroner’s Office.

Styninger said no further information will be available at this time.
