Norma Jean Barr, 91, of Mt. Vernon, passed away at 3:59 a.m., Monday, August 31, 2020, at her home.

She was born February 20, 1929, the daughter of George W. and Dona J. (Brasel) Correll.  On March 23, 1951, she married Russell E. “Bud” Barr, and he survives in Mt. Vernon.

Norma Jean put her faith and her family above all else.  She gave everything she had to serve others.  She enjoyed crocheting and supplied everyone in the county with as many dish rags as they wanted.  She loved her church family at Boyd Christian Church and served wherever she was needed.  She loved her community and always fed her neighbors whether they were hungry or not, and had a coffee pot that never ran out.

In addition to her husband, Russell E. “Bud” Barr, she is survived by one daughter, Diane (Barr) Jones and husband Harold of Mt. Vernon; two granddaughters, Chris (Jones) Shopinski and husband Johnny of Mt. Vernon, and Nicole (Jones) Brown and husband Mike of Mt. Vernon;  and one great-grandson, Christopher Brown.  She is also survived by two sisters-in-law, Betty Mead and Mary K. Barr.

She was preceded in death by her parents, George and Dona Correll; her sisters, Alta Tinsley, Opal Payne, and  Wilhelemine Beal; and brother-in-law, Tom Barr.

A walk-through visitation will be held Wednesday, September 2, 2020, from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m., at Boyd Christian Church.  The family requests that visitors please wear masks, and to practice social distancing to ensure the health of the family as well as the health of their friends.  A private funeral service will follow.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Boyd Christian Church, the Boyd Christian Church After School Ministry, or to Terry and Charlene Harmon (Hope 4 Broken Hearts), and will be accepted at the visitation, or by mail to the Osborn Funeral Home, P.O Box 130, Dix, Illinois 62830.  Online condolences may be made at www.osbornfuneral.com, or on the Osborn Funeral Home Facebook page.
