BENTON — The City of Benton has been aggressively working to keep residents safe when they come to City Hall.

According to City Clerk Brook Craig, they are asking everyone who comes to City Hall to wear a mask and social distance. The city is also sanitizing the facility multiple times throughout the day and are following everything the governor says to do at this point.

Employees are having their temperature taken several times a day according to Craig. The city is also providing PPE to employees and spreading out the chairs in the City Council’s meeting room when meetings are held.

Craig says they are not taking people into city offices right now. If a city official needs to speak to someone, Craig says they say on their side of the plexiglass or they will put on a mask and speak to them in the lobby.

Craig says City Council members Lee Messersmith and Cathy Ann Garavalia are also working on a contingency plan regarding what to do if the council were to come down with COVID-19.
