Clyde “Jake” R. Howell, 82, of Mount Vernon, IL, passed away at 11:42 pm June 25, 2020 at his residence in Mount Vernon, IL. He was born August 2, 1937 in Jefferson County, Illinois to the late Clyde “Pop” V. Howell and Doris M. (Whisenhunt) Howell . Clyde married Jean Ann (Browning) Howell on December 1, 1956 in Mount Vernon, Illinois. They were blessed with nearly 60 years of marriage.
Jake is survived by his significant other, Colleen Rightnowar; two sons, Tim (Sonya ) Howell of Mount Vernon, IL, and David (Linda) Howell of Crane Hill, Alabama; daughter, Stacey (Wally) Staats of Belle Rive, IL; seven grandchildren, Chris (Amy) Howell of Pickneyville, IL, Shaun Howell, David Ray (Dawn) Howell of Alabama, Justin Howell, Jared Howell, and Lacey and Blake Storment both of Mount Vernon, IL; ten great grandchildren, including Cassie Howell, a Registered Nurse that cared for him through his illness until the very end; two great-great grandchildren; brother, Billie Howell; two sisters, Betty Tate and Cheryl Piper both of Mount Vernon, IL; and several nieces and nephews also survive.
In addition to his parents, Clyde “Pop” V. Howell and Doris M. (Whisenhunt) Howell and wife, Jean Ann (Browning) Howell, Jake was preceded in death by his brother, Jim Howell; infant brother, Terry Lynn Howell; grandson, Ashley Halbin; great grandson, Caleb Howell; and brother-in-law, Dewey Tate.
Jake worked at car shops in East Chicago, IN., the Vernois Stove Foundry, General Tire and Inland Steel Coal Mine. He attended Bonnie Bakerville Baptist Church and loved fishing. Jake will be missed by all who knew him.
A Visitation will be held Monday, June 29, 2020 from 10:00 A.M. to 11:00 A.M. at Mount Vernon Memorial Gardens in Woodlawn, Illinois. A Graveside Service will follow at 11:00 A.M. with Reverend David Mishler and Reverend Ted Anderson officiating. Interment will follow. Memorials may be made in Clyde’s honor to Bonnie Bakerville Baptist Church.
