CENTRALIA, IL — Centralia police arrested a 41-year-old Centralia man Tuesday in connection with a shooting complaint from the 800 block of Jackson Street in Centralia.

Thetis Leon Johnson was charged Wednesday in Marion County Court with three Class 1 felony counts of aggravated discharge of a firearm into an occupied vehicle.

According to Centralia Police Chief Greg Dodson, around 11 a.m. Tuesday, officers responded to a shooting complaint involving a white Chevrolet Silverado and the residents of 817 Jackson Street.

When officers arrived on scene, the truck had left the area but the officers did locate two vehicles that had been struck by gunfire in the area. There were no injuries.

Dodson says that later the driver of the truck, Duan M. Brown, went into the police department and identified himself as the victim in the shooting. Investigators from the Centralia Police Department conducted interviews with the victim as well with Steven L. Barnes, who was a passenger in the truck.

The victim and the passenger gave similar accounts of the events stating they were driving by the residence when someone from the residence started shooting at the truck.

The passenger could not identify the shooter but the victim identified the subject who was shooting at him as Johnson.

Brown reportedly told police that there has been an ongoing dispute between himself and Johnson for the past week, which led to the shooting.

Johnson refused to give a statement and was transported to the Marion County Jail where he remains awaiting the setting of bail. He’s scheduled to appear in court Thursday to be advised of the charges against him.
