CENTRALIA, IL — A 17-year-old Centralia teen was charged as an adult with attempted murder Thursday and bond was set at $1 million in Marion County Court. The charge comes in connection with a shooting incident last month the 800 block of Jackson Street in Centralia.

Christopher Jamison was charged with Class X felony attempted murder and Class 1 felony aggravated discharge of a firearm into an occupied vehicle. He had been arrested the day after the incident and was held as a juvenile until Thursday when Judge Ericka Sanders ruled that since Jamison is just six months shy of turning 18, he would be charged as an adult in the case.

According to Centralia Police Chief Greg Dodson at the time, officers responded the afternoon of May 16th to a report of shots fired in the 800 block of Jackson Street in Centralia. Officers were told the victim had fled to the 700 block of North Lincoln Street and wished to speak to law enforcement. Officers made contact with 18-year-old Davion J. Martin, of Centralia, who stated that he had been the victim in the shooting and he knew and identified Jamison as the shooter. He said Jamison was angry with him over a past dispute and started an altercation with him while he was visiting the residence on Jackson. According to Martin, Jamison retrieved a gun and started firing at him. Martin then got into his vehicle to flee the area but the Jamison continued to fire shots at Martin and his car.

Police reportedly located five bullet holes in the vehicle. Two of the bullet holes came through the vehicle’s front windshield. CPD believes 10 to 14 shots were fired at the victim during the altercation.

Jamison was ultimately entered as a person of interest and the following day the Salem Police Department took him into custody while responding to a report of a suspicious vehicle.

According to Chief Dodson, both Jamison and Martin are known members of the Rude Boys street gang.
