JEFFERSON COUNTY, IL — A 21-year-old Mt. Vernon man is expected to change his not guilty plea Wednesday in Jefferson County Court in a case charging him with home invasion and armed robbery.

Sharod Jahlik Wilson-Patton was indicted in August 2017 on Class X felony charges of armed robbery and home invasion after a May 10, 2017 incident in which he and Mekeyle Johnson allegedly forced their way into a home in the 4100 block of Willow Springs.

Wilson-Patton was arrested on the 2017 warrant during a January traffic stop by Mt. Vernon police. Bail on the 2017 case had previously been set at $100,000.

According to Mt. Vernon Police Chief Trent Page, the two suspects and a possible third reportedly pointed guns at two people in the home and threatened to shoot them before stealing cash and fleeing the scene.

Johnson was ultimately captured in West Virginia in 2018 and extradited back to Illinois on the Jefferson County charges.

He pleaded guilty to the armed robbery charge and was sentenced to 5-years in prison. A 2018 Class 2 felony charge of intimidation of a civilian was dismissed against Johnson as part of his plea agreement. He’s currently on parole.
