SOUTHERN ILLINOIS — It’s National Telecommunicators Week, and local police agencies are giving thanks to the dispatchers that work around the clock for area residents.

Pope County Sheriff Jerry Suits says telecommunicators are crucial to keeping residents safe.

National Telecommunicators Week has been celebrated the second week of April since 1981.
