MT. VERNON, IL — Businesses have seen a shift in the way they conduct day-to-day activities during the COVID-19 pandemic. Funeral homes have been no different when it comes to making big changes to accommodate the general public.
Carmen Hughey-Deichman is the Funeral Director at Hughey Funeral Home as well as Newell Funeral Home. She says guidelines from the Illinois Funeral Directors Association as well as the Governor and CDC require gatherings be limited to 10 people or less, even for a visitation or funeral.
Hughey-Deichman says they’re utilizing video conferences, website bulletin boards for loved ones to post messages for the family, and of course flowers can still be sent in memory of those lost.
Whether it’s doing so in a video chat now or postponing services, the coronavirus has changed yet another aspect of our lives…how we say goodbye.
