BENTON, IL — At Monday’s Benton City Council meeting, Benton Mayor Fred Kondritz commended the work the City Council has done and continues to do for Benton during these trying times as the COVID-19 Pandemic rolls on.

With that said, Mayor Kondritz has asked each council member to see if there’s going to be a need to layoff or furlough city employees or reduce hours in order to save the city money.

The mayor went on to say that the city needs to look at what it is doing and be aware of the finances the city doesn’t have coming in right now and what is still available now.

It’s expected that the council will bring its recommendations to the mayor at some point in the future.
