BENTON — The Benton City Council took no action regarding amending the current parking ordinance at Monday night’s meeting.

According to Benton City Clerk Brook Craig, discussion was held but nothing was done as specifics had not been decided on.

Several merchants on and off the square recently addressed their parking concerns with the city council saying parking in front of their businesses should not be for employees of any of the square businesses or the county. They want the parking spaces to be for customers only. They were also concerned about parking when demolition and construction of the new courthouse begins later this year.

The council is expected to take up this issue again and possibly approve a change in the parking ordinance sometime next month.
