WILLIAMSON COUNTY –Williamson County Sheriff Bennie Vick is warning residents about a phone scam being reported in our area.

Sheriff Vick says the sheriff’s office received two reports Monday afternoon of a caller identifying himself as “Deputy Delaney” with the Williamson County Sheriff’s Office informing the intended victim that they had missed a court date. The caller attempted to force the intended victim into paying a fine over the telephone.

The sheriff says what makes this scam different is that the caller has left a call-back number of 618-319-7911. If you call this number, you will hear a computerized message claiming that you have reached the Williamson County Sheriff’s Office Court Process Division. This is an unusual attempt at appearing legitimate.

The sheriff wants people to know that any legitimate law enforcement agency will not demand immediate payment over the telephone, and that any caller that tries to pressure or convince you to make an immediate payment over the telephone is almost certainly a scam.
