WILLIAMSON COUNTY, IL — One person was killed in a crash involving a pickup truck and a semi-trailer combination just after 7:30 Friday morning on Illinois 166, a quarter-mile north of Old Creal Springs Road, in Williamson County.

According to Illinois State Police, the pickup truck was going north on 166 and the semi was going south on 166 near Old Creal Springs Road when the pickup truck crossed into the southbound lane colliding head-on with the semi. After both vehicles collided, the semi ran off the right hand side of the roadway, overturned and caught fire.

The pickup truck driver was taken by ambulance to an area hospital where the driver was pronounced dead. The semi driver was airlifted to an out of state hospital with serious injuries. Route 166 was closed for approximately 6.5 hours for crash investigation and cleanup.

The investigation into the crash continues. ISP says the drivers’ names are not being released at this time.
