MT. VERNON, IL — A 24-year-old Mt. Vernon has been sentenced to an additional 12-years in the Illinois Department of Corrections after being sentenced in Mary to 7-years in prison for sex crimes against two children.

Tyler C. Murray was originally charged in Jefferson County court with Class X predatory criminal sexual assault of a victim under the age of 13 and two counts Class 2 felony aggravated criminal sexual abuse when the accused was at least five years older than the minor victim.

According to Jefferson County State’s Attorney Sean Featherstun, all three counts alleged the crimes took place within a 5 to 6 month period against two separate victims.

The Class X charge was ultimately severed from the others and Murray pleaded guilty to one of the Class 2 charges in exchange for the other Class 2 charge being dismissed.

He was sentenced to 7 years in prison on the Class 2 felony and a jury trial was scheduled for November 12 on the Class X charge.

Murray instead pleaded guilty last week on the remaining charge and agreed to serve 12 years consecutive to the earlier sentence.
