WAYNE COUNTY — A 37-year-old Mt. Vernon man and a 22-year-old Mt. Vernon woman have been charged in Wayne County court with delivery and possession of methamphetamine after they were arrested earlier this month by agents of the Wayne County Drug Task Force.

Matthew Allen and Brittany Cassidy were allegedly found to be in possession of 84 grams of meth when agents took them into custody the afternoon of October 12.

Wayne County authorities say the street value of the methamphetamine would be approximately $8,400. This investigation is still ongoing.

Allen and Cassidy have both been charged with Class X felony delivery of between 15 and 100 grams of meth and Class 1 felony possession of between 15 and 100 grams of meth.

Cassidy was already facing a Class 2 felony charge in Jefferson County court for delivery of less than 5 grams of meth stemming from an arrest in May.

She posted a $4,000 cash bond in that case in June and was released. She’s next due to appear December 5 in Wayne County court for a pretrial hearing.

Allen was free at the time of the Wayne County arrest on $2,000 bond in Jefferson County where he’s facing Class 2 felony delivery of less than 5 grams of meth and Class 3 felony possession of less than 5 grams of meth in separate cases filed in September.

His arraignment Tuesday on the Wayne County charges was continued until November 19.

They both remain in the Wayne County Jail with bail set at $30,000 each.
