MT. VERNON — With Veterans Day around the corner, the city of Mt. Vernon is saluting area Veterans and their efforts to help fellow man.

Mt. Vernon mayor John Lewis signed a pair of proclamations Tuesday declaring November 2nd “Buddy Poppies Day” in the city as the VFW sells the buddy poppies to help disabled and needy veterans. He also signed a Veterans Day proclamation as November 11th marks the 101st anniversary of the end of World War I.

Lewis says we are always indebted to our veterans.

The Mt. Vernon Memorial VFW Post 9233 will celebrate its 28th annual “Buddy Poppy” salute to veterans on November 11th at 10:30 a.m. at Times Square Mall.
