Judge Mark Stedelin sentenced Delbert Trainor Tuesday to 40 years in prison on each count to which he’d pleaded guilty in May. The sentences are to be served consecutively.

Trainor was arrested in September of 2018 and charged with nine Class X counts of predatory criminal sexual assault, with eight of the charges specifying the age of the victim to be under 13.

Trainor pleaded guilty in May to counts four and five, which were two of the charges specifying the victim’s age to be under 13.

The charges accused Trainor of sexually assaulted or abusing five children over multiple years dating back at least to early 2016.

While it’s likely Trainor will spend the rest of his life in prison, if he is ever released he will have to serve three years to life on mandatory supervised release and register as a sexual predator.

Prosecutors in the case had earlier set aside the remaining seven counts against Trainor for possible prosecution. A status on those remaining charges is scheduled for September 9, almost one year after his arrest.
