CENTRALIA — Three people were taken to SSM Health St. Mary’s Hospital in Centralia Monday following a serious two-vehicle crash in the afternoon on Route 51 south of town.

Reports say around 3:45 p.m., a westbound pickup truck turned left in front of an eastbound SUV. While the SUV reportedly took evasive action, it still collided with the truck causing it to rollover. The SUV landed on top of a small hill just southeast of the intersection.

Both drivers and a passenger in the SUV were taken to the hospital — two with potentially serious injuries.

Centralia Fire Protection District personnel, Life Star paramedics, Centralia Police, Marion County Sheriff’s Deputies, Wamac Police, and the Illinois State Police all responded.

Centralia Fire Protection District assisted ambulance crews in removing the injured from each vehicle and placing them in the ambulances.
